Why Train Here
What Makes Kathak Here Different
Live Tabla, Not Just Recordings
Recordings have their place — but here, the tabla answers you. A living player meets your every step, a true संगत where two artists breathe as one. The rhythm does not play at you; it plays with you. Sangeet means 'together in song' — and that conversation is something very few schools can give. It is why our dancers move differently.
A True Gurukul Lineage
Three generations, one unbroken thread. We teach guru to shishya, the way our classical arts have always survived — not in books, but in the closeness between a teacher and a student, passed from one heart to another.
Lucknow–Banaras, With Original Work
A rare meeting of two great gharanas — the grace of Lucknow, the vigour of Banaras — and, on top of that, compositions written here, for you. You won't dance the same bandishes as every other student in the city; you will dance something that is ours.
For Every Learner, Anywhere
From a five-year-old's first tatkar to a sixty-six-year-old chasing a lifelong dream — here, the right age to begin is simply the age you are. In Hyderabad in person, or live online, anywhere in the world.
Kathak is born of कथा — the story. Long before it graced any stage, the kathakars spun tales of gods and lovers with nothing but their hands and their feet. To learn Kathak is to inherit that lineage of storytellers — to make the body speak what words cannot.
At Kala Kuteer it unfolds slowly, the way a raga does — footwork that sharpens into lightning, abhinaya that softens into feeling, and the held breath of a perfect pause. There is no rushing it, and that is precisely the gift.

Frequently Asked
Do I need any prior experience to start Kathak?+
None at all. Most of our students begin from scratch — we start with the very foundations of posture, footwork, and rhythm, and build from there at your own pace.
What is the right age to start learning Kathak?+
Children can begin from around age 5, and there's truly no upper limit. We regularly train teenagers and adults who walk in with no background — age has nothing to do with how far you can go.
Can I learn Kathak online?+
Yes. We teach Kathak live over Zoom to students around the world, with the same personal attention as our in-person classes.
Which Kathak gharana do you teach?+
A blend of the Lucknow and Banaras gharanas, with emphasis on both technical footwork and expressive abhinaya.
Are there exams or certifications?+
Yes — students can prepare for the graded examinations of the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya (ABGMM), building a recognised, level-by-level record of progress.
