The Founding Gurus
Dr. P.C. Chatterjee
Co-Founder
M.Sc, M.Sc(Tech.), Ph.D, Sangeet Visharad
While pursuing his doctorate in Polymer Chemistry at IICT Hyderabad, Dr. Chatterjee began learning Hindustani classical vocal under late Shri Jagannath Goud ji. He earned the Sangeet Visharad from ABGMM in 1972 with First Division, performing recitals across Hyderabad and Dewas. A man of many arts, he played Indrajeet in Badal Sarkar’s celebrated Ebang Indrajeet at Ravindra Natya Griha, Indore. When his daughter envisioned a school to pass on their artistic tradition, he joined hands with her to co-found Kala Kuteer in 2014.
Mrs. Rupa Bhattacharya

Kathak · Sitar · Vocals
Immersed in Kathak since childhood, Mrs. Rupa Bhattacharya is an award-winning performer and graded Doordarshan artist. She trained in Kathak under Shri Nath ji, Shri Bhagwathi Prasad Mishra ji, and Shri Lahiri ji; Sitar under Ustad Chote Khan Sahib of the Indore Gharana; and Vocals from Dr. P.C. Chatterjee and Ustad Ghulam Ghouze Khan of Bareilly. After heading music at Birla Boys School, Nainital, she founded Kala Kuteer in 2014 with her father — and has since taken her school to stages across the US, Paris, Singapore, Bangkok, and Dubai. She continues to run the school alongside her son Abhinav, actively teaching Kathak, Sitar, and Vocals to this day.
Mr. Abhinav Bhattacharya

Abhinav began his journey with the Tabla at age seven, later expanding into drums and contemporary percussion. A true music lover, he left a legal career after NUJS Kolkata to become a full-time musician — managing the school and teaching by day, performing with his own rock band by evening. As Director, he has expanded Kala Kuteer from a single branch to two locations and a virtual gurukul reaching students across four countries. His vision is to make authentic classical training accessible to anyone, at any age, anywhere in the world.
